ABOUT
Hi, I’m Jessica.
My Background
I'm a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) and the owner of Jessica McDonald Psychology.
Before starting this practice, I worked across a range of mental health settings — including Alberta Health Services, CUPS, McMan Youth Family & Community Services, and other Alberta-based community organizations — providing counselling and assessment services to people from very different walks of life. That work shaped how I show up today: with curiosity, without judgment, and with a deep respect for how complicated being human can be.
How I work in counselling
In counselling, I primarily work with individuals aged 16 and older. I want my clients to leave each session with something tangible — a skill, a reframe, a small experiment — that they can carry into the rest of their week. My goal is for you to feel genuinely heard, seen, and understood, and to walk out of therapy with a more workable relationship to your emotions, your stressors, and yourself.
How I work in assessments
In assessments, I work with individuals as young as three years old. Whether you're a parent looking for clarity about your child or an adult seeking answers about your own learning or functioning, my goal is the same: to listen carefully, gather a complete picture, and provide a report and recommendations that translate into real-world support.
My Approach
I draw from several evidence-based modalities and tailor my approach to the person in front of me. I work from a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming lens — meaning I'm interested in how your brain works, not in fitting you into a narrow definition of "normal."
Modalities I draw from include:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Holistic & integrative approaches
Who I work With:
Counselling: Adolescents (16+) and adults
Assessments: Ages 3 and older
Languages Offered: English
